North Carolina? I'm in Chapel Hill. Yes, I saw my first hummer a few weeks ago. He's all moved in. I've seen him 3 times this morning while working in my garden. He sits in my willow tree and watches. I've only seen the one so far.

I have salvia and crossvine in bloom.

I'm in Gibsonville and have had them for a few weeks now. But I've also had some come and go; probably moving up to "greener pastures" up North. That's part of our job here in the South--keep 'em healthy on their way up to friends! You may have had several of these guys and just not happened to see them. Your "residents" may not have made it up yet...females in particular are a little later to arrive sometimes. Stay patient and keep those flowers blooming!

Thanks, let's hope that's the case. I'm addicted to watching for these little birds. Guess I was spoiled. I had never watched them before last year when we decided to put up a feeder. We instantly got them and by the end of the summer had at least 12 that were at our porch constantly. Come to think of it though, it was the end of May before we put our feeders out, so maybe in a few more weeks we'll have more activity.

I've had some fly throughs but none sticking around. I get really busy after nesting time keeping my feeders filled. It takes a while but worth it.

The male is still here. I was out planting red snapdragons for him and he was just a few feet away feasting on the red salvia gregii and blue nepeta. He's not afraid of me at all, so I get a really good look at him. Gorgeous ruby throat! I put up my third feeder yesterday in anticipation of more to come.

We now have a female, too! We have a lot of flowers blooming in the garden already, so the feeders aren't being used much.

I'm in Asheville and haven't seen any yet! Although the bush we have that they really like its just now poking out of the ground.
