From what I can determine, scarlet sage and Salvia coccinea are one and the same and if that's the case, yes, yes, yes! They do. That's the annual salvia that I got at walmart last summer and am impatiently waiting for mine to bloom or walmart to get some already blooming in...whichever happens first!!!!! Don't ya wish all the companies would label the same!!!!

Unfortunatley for those inexperienced with salvias they can get confused by the common name. Salvia splendens has also been called scarlet sage but salvia splendens doesn't hold a candle to salvia coccinea when it comes to the way it grows and the amount of nectar that it contains for hummers. This is why you need to learn the botanical name and learn to recognize the two different plants so you can see the actual difference.

Salvia Coccinea the species is also known by the common name of Texas Sage, or Scarlet Sage. One of the good Hybrids of this plant is Coral Nymph, which is also a very good hummer plant. The flowers are a peachy pink and white.
