Wonderful! That's amazing that he came to the stream of water. How delightful! Do you have a hummingbird feeder, water features, or flowers he might like so that he'll be sure to stick around?

Yes, I have about 5 feeders out and had only seen the hummers twice back in May.....they have been coming for years. I guess the strange weather caused the change in their schedule? He did not actually touch the water but kept dipping toward it and if I could have been quick thinking and turned it to the mist I am thinking he might have taken a dip. Would they like a regular bird bath or does it need to be moving water? I hope I see him again in the morning, I work evenings.
I have seen them sit on tree branches several times and that surprised me when I first saw it....I thought they never sat still.
My son said that he saw a nest once with a baby in it!

Consider setting up a mister. Where water is scarce, or where it's hot, they love them.

Is there a particular type of mister that is made for birds? I am new to this except for the fact that the hummers have just naturally been coming here even before I started setting out feeders for them. I have goldfinches this year, too. And the skinks and the tree toads. I won't mention the moles/voles/squirrels, lol.

Some of the online places that sell feeders and other wild bird supplies also sell misters. You could also setup your own sprinkler as they like to fly through that too.
