I was wondering the same. We had a male which I saw daily early in the morning. Then I didn't see him and thought that was the end of my having hummers. Now today I've been seeing a female all day. I've never seen one before. She comes frequently, seems like every 15 minutes or so, but I haven't seen the male. I read (perhaps on this forum) that males do not incubate eggs but do assist in the raising of the nestlings. I hope this is the case. This is our first time to have hummingbirds and we are very excited.

since I don't know where you are or how early your hummers arrived I can't say if they are nesting in your area or not. Mine in western NY are nesting right now.

Depends on the region and species, also. The Anna's hummingbird, which we have resident year around in the Pacific Northwest, starts breeding very early, December/early January and continue to May. They can have 2 broods in this time period. My feeders stay up year-round and get the heaviest usage in early spring around Feb - March. Usage then tapers off a bit, then picks up again when the Rufous hummingbirds move in.
