My clary sage bloomed for the first time this year-its a biennial. It's a beautiful plant- I got it from select seeds. Since my first hummer just arrived, I'll have to keep you posted as to whether she likes it! Hope that helps a little.

I have mentioned clary sage before; I love it. Mine is in full blooming glory right now- all over the place as it re-seeds everywhere. It is the first picture in your link above. Salvia sclarea. I bought seeds to start out with- in the herb section. If you get some seeds, you may just want to drop them in the dirt where you want it. Or winter sow. Its pretty easy stuff.

I've had really good luck attracting hummers to my clary sage. I have around 3 or 4 plants and just last week when I was sitting outside having lunch with my DH, we saw a hummingbird have a field day at the clary sage. I didn't even know that they like this plant. Now that I do, I'll let it sow itself here and there.

Thanks! I'll probably give it a try next summer. I didn't come across any cultivars of it when I was looking on the web but it looks like it has different colors at least.
Lisa - Are your seedlings different colors or all the same?

Mine all look the same, Christie. A kind of dusky light purply color for the top curved petal, and white on the lower straighter petal. But I bought straight clary sage seeds- not a cultivar. I don't even know if there are any cultivars out there. Have fun with it!
