For quicker growth, plant it in the sun and give it something to climb.

I would make the hole a little wider and deeper, to give it some place to grow it's roots into. Put some nice compost, potting soil or soft friable stuff in the bottom, put the plant in. Be sure to cover to exactly the point where it is covered now, not deeper or shallower. Water in thoroughly and watch it grow.

This is a pretty tough vine, so don't worry too much. Once it gets its feet planted, you will be able to see it grow almost daily.

Just to ease your mind, plants fight hard to live. You usually have to keep abusing them over a period of time to actually kill them. One little mistake quickly corrected is hardly ever fatal. You'd be amazed what some of mine have actually lived thru :)
