? about sage and agastache

Hi all! I'm usually over on the Cottage Garden forum, but thought I'd come here for some hummer info. I got a small single pack of pineapple sage way back in the spring. It had a few blooms on it and they died off. Since then, it has gotten huge, but no more blooms and no signs of blooms. Is this going to rebloom before the end of the season? I mean, it's about 1-2 ft tall and the same diameter. Really big. But, I want some more flowers!

Then, I have an agastache, but forgot the name. It is pale pinky-purple and orange I thought it was "Tropical Sunset", but can't find that name anywhere, so obviously I am mis-remembering it! ;o)

Also, does anyone know if the sage will overwinter in z7 OK? Can I mulch the sage really heavily? Can I cut it to the crown, and root the cuttings of the sage?

Pineapple sage doesn't bloom utill the Fall so you will have to wait awhile to see any blooms. Boy when it does though it is gorgeous! I am zone 6 and I can't over winter it unless I bring it inside. I'm not sure about zone 7 but I think you would need to take cuttings and bring it inside also. I think it is too cold but you could take some cutting and root them and then also try muclching it heavily because that way you would be covered either way.

Thanks so much! I think that my agastache is the bicolor Acapulco. I love it and it is about 3' tall and wide. I'm glad to know that my sage will bloom. I may try what you said, and root cuttings and then mulch and see what happens.

The agastache may be "Acapulco Salmon & Pink". I purchased about 8 plants 3 years ago, which were sold as perennials at Home Depot, and labelled simply "Agastache". Most were mine were lost over the winter, but 2 did manage to survive. This year, one more died, but the last one is still alive, and I did manage to purchase another at a local nursery. It didn't even have a tag, but I believe it was sold with the annuals. Even if it's a short lived perennial in my zone (6), it's gorgeous and the hummers love it...

I think you're right. Mine is absolutely HUGE. I'll have to divide next year, I think. I thought it was hardy to Z5. I love mine. My Raspberry Rose Hibiscus is also a Hummer magnet.

I had the acapulco salmon and pink last year. It was labeled as an annual. I was hoping it would overwinter for me but it didn't

Well, from what I've read, the Agastache "Acapulco" cultivars like it moist and semi-shade to sun. Mine is in a hot dry bed with full sun all day. I rarely water it. In fact, it is between some irises and rosemary, and they both like it dry. Maybe it was too moist? The flower spikes on mine are now over 3 feet. It is absolutely flourishing! This was from a small 2 inch pot last summer. I had also bought another Agastache, but it never grew like this, and didn't make it through the winter. I can't remember what cultivar it was. Seems like it was a bluish-purple color.
