I'm also am from SE PA (Ridley Township area) and yes, I have two females right now. Since end of April I got 4 or 5 migrants stop by for a few days, then a male at the feeder and in our tree for one month, then he left and a few days later one girl and a week or so later now two girls. I am constantly watching when I am home though so I always see them everyday. My feeders are right at my living room and kitchen windows so sometimes I hear them too before I look.

Do you have some red colors around to get thier attention? I had a bunch of red poppies in the spring and although they don't like poppies I believe the color helped attract them along with azeleas and then they found a few hummer plants that were there specially for them. Now they've stayed.

Hang in there.....if you have nectar then they will eventually find you.

Deb, I have had them for years now and this spring I saw one or two, probably when they were traveling. I haven't seen one at my house since then. I am in VA.....they are close by, but not here. I have heard others complaining of the same problem. I don't understand....the plants are here, the feeders are here, the hummers are not here.

Yesturday, I finally got my first hummer. I have only hummingbird plants in my front and back yard, but I usually get my first one in June anyways. I have a very large (4 stories) cherry tree, and have noticed that when the fruit is gone, the hummers show. I suspect the rest of the hummers will be here shortly! Good luck! Christy

Deb, They're here but may be nesting, and making themselves scarce. I've had a couple of sightings (at a red stained glass ornament, of all things!), but for me, I see them most often from about 6/21 through Labor Day. The start of Summer usually coincides with my Bee Balm blooming, and they can't resist that! After that, they'll hang around for Jewelweed, Lobelia, and a few non natives (such as Salvia, Agastache, and Canna) that I have. Hang in there, it won't be long! ;)

I have a big hanging basket of red million bells about 15 feet away from the feeder. That's what attracted the first hummer this year, but it was obviously just passing thru. I know by this time last year I had some, wonder where they are?

Mine always disappear for a while every year too. In fact, they were MIA for about a week and a half and just came back. I agree with the nesting theory - just wish they'd nest in my yard. They're back again now. Keep the feeders clean and full and be patient.

One of my boys from last year has now taken up residence on my balcony and has claimed it as his territory. LOL His mother is nesting somewhere and has only come for some quick sips the past week or so.

This is nesting time for sure!

I'm in Paris (n.e. Texas) and I've had the same experience this year, a few itinerants early on and nothing for the past couple of weeks. I did see one bird this morning. I have 5 feeders out and most years have 5-10 hummers around at any given time. I've heard of Katrina having had an effect. I also have finches this year that go to the feeders and am wondering if finches might scare away the hummers.

I have never seen hummers in our neighborhood in Virginia -- EXCEPT when my agastache ('Just Peachy') blooms in mid-summer -- then hummers appear from nowhere to enjoy it! So even if they're not at your feeder anymore, they may return when a particularly enticing plant goes into bloom!

OK, you've convinced me I have to make a purchase. Last year I had Cardinal Flower in my pond and it was the only flower that the hummers went to. Most just visited the feeder. I guess I better go get another Cardinal Flower to attract them!!!

I am in Montgomery County (PA)and have yet to see any. I have to bright red hibiscus with plenty of flowers, but no one has come to visit.

I'll keep watching.

I am here in South Carolina, I keep my feeders out but I have not seen one yet. It's very strange. I have been feeding the hummers for years, and it's never taken this long for them to be coming around.

Since my original post my son saw one around a hanging basket of petunias. The next day I saw a female early in the morning next to the feeder (just saw her once). The following day I saw a male at the same feeder (just saw him once). And since then, again, nothing. By this time last year I was regularly taking pictures at the feeder just outside my kitchen window. Do you think it's true that Katrina did something to the migrating population of hummers?

If any of you are up early in the morning just before sunrise or get chance to check late in the afternoon around or after sunset, you might have a better chance of seeing them.

I know last year, just at sunset was a great time to see them. I've been watching faithfully at that time of day, but have seen nothing.

I finally saw one this weekend, as I do at the start of every Summer. They've never failed to show up for me within a day or so of the Bee Balm blooming. Yah hoo!
