My Congrats. I was one of the lucky one I guess. The first summer I was here, a hummer appeared in my yard and my yard couldnt have had any less in it, so I got busy and have had them ever since.

I've usually seen some activity by now, but not yet this year. However, I know that I won't have to wait much longer, as they are always around as soon as the Monarda blooms (in about another week or so). After that, they hang around for Jewelweed, Cardinal flower, and many of the tender perennials that I have. I can't wait!

I was lucky with my first hummers. I didn't know if there were any around. I certainly hadn't seen any. But I bought a feeder and carried it outside. As I stood there quietly wondering where to hang it, a hummer showed up. I was so surprised I almost dropped the feeder.

But I did realize then that location doesn't seem to be the most important thing to hummers. I hung out several at places I could easily see, one from the rain gutter at my deck door. It doesn't bother them a bit if I stand right inside next to it.

Hummers are birds you never realize are there until you set up a feeder where they will stop for a few moments...
