Ward...I really had to laugh about your cat. My imagination immediate gave your cat hummingbird wings and I saw him hovering with "that look". Sort of a flying Garfield image! lol

Cat - great pictures. Isn't it a hoot when they get right in your face and stare at you? OHHHHHHHHH you sent me some seeds..months ago/ and they sprouted and I have ONE orange blossom....... hopefully I can nuture this plant and get some seeds for next year!! Tks again !!!!!

That's a Buff-bellied Hummingbird on the suncatcher. Birders will travel a long way to see that one.

Yes, we get lots of birders and lepids from all over the world who come to see our hummies, butterflies and other birds.

As for the hummies...we get a nice variety here:

Commonly seen:

Buff-bellied (amazilia yucatanensis)
Ruby-throated (archilochus colubris)
Black-chinned (archilocbus alexandri)

Seen...but not as common - sometimes only during migration:

Broad-billed (cynanthus latirostris)
Green-breasted mango (anthracothorax prevostii)
Green Violet-ear (colibri thalassinus)
White-eared (hylocharis leucotis)
Blue-throated (lampornis clemenciae)
Rufous (selasphorus rufus)
Anna's (calypte anna)

Your photos are wonderful. I am curious--do you use a tripod? Or do you have so many friendly birds that they let you approach them? I am really jealous of your plethora of birds but I don't think I'd trade your climate. Thank you for sharing your babies.

Nope, never used a tripod...hence some of the blurry photos. I have several regulars...of which I have pet names for...so I hope they are the same birds! They are used to seeing me out in the yard filling feeders, working on the plants or out with camera in hand - so most times I am able to get right up to the feeders...usually standing on a step stool and only about two feet or less away.

Got some juvies that are quite skittish though. Have to use a zoom lens on them. Hopefully as the season progresses they will get used to me.

They learn easily enough to associate me with fresh nectar!!!

And yes...the climate gets rough during the summer. I can't stand out in the sun trying to get photos without the sweat dripping into my eyes! UGH!!! - but our fall season is great...I get lots of photos during that time.
