Pat, I know the feeling about cutting the screen. We have a screen porch and I wish I had roll up screens when the hummers are in a good camera range. Nice picture by the way.

Great picture I know how you both feel I have a screened in porch too Several years ago we replaced the bottom panels with plexiglass but that's just as blurry I can't seem to get them as clean as glass. Sarah

Checked out you pictures. Both of the hummingbird and your garden. Beautiful.

We glassed in our patio to make a sunroom and the insullated windows have fogged up. Can't see out what a bomber. Would like to tear out the whole mess and start over. If I had another place to put my wicker furniture I would take a crowbar to it and tear it down myself.

See how beautiful south Jersey can be? And yes, hummer numbers are sure increasing now. At my home in Medford we've seen an increase in the past week - we're now occasionally seeing four at once. The true number is almost certainly higher. If you are near the coast, watch out. Numbers down there can be really high, so you might want to stock up on sugar.

Thanks Ward I am making a grocery list right now. You are right I am using more sugar water lately. Infact you just reminded me that I have an empty one to go take care of.

There's alot of hummers everywhere I have a bunch too chasing and fighting each other. That's because the young ones have left the nest and they are on their second nesy of the season at least up north probably on their third in the south. Sarah

Ditto on the great pics and LOL about cutting a hole in the screen! I know I had to move plants and things out of the way of the viewing path that I normally use for my zoom shots from inside. It's a pain when the autofocus ends up focusing on the nearer objects (like a screen mesh or some leaves on a plant nearby) rather than the hummer. :-p

I am also curious about that plant that the hummer has its beak shoved all the way into. :-p

Ahh... okay. I tried growing some of those from seed this year and they withered away. I didn't really get chance to get them thinned properly. I may try again at some point.

I don't have a penstemon but it is one of the few I want to invest in next year.

This looks like the same penstemon but I didn't see the hummers use it last year. Is it the same one?

That's a beautiful penstemon what kind is it I think the kid Patsy has is barbutus.

penstemon! thanks, pat. I bought one labelled 'husker red' earlier this year, and although it looks healthy it is showing no signs of blooming. I've been wondering what it will look like. that link says may-june bloom time. hmm.

Thanks for the offer Sarah! I'm at the point where I have literally filled up just about every space on the balcony. :-o I have an agastache still in its 1 gallon container and I have to get that put somewhere. I had started a bunch of red hot pokers from seed this year that are doing well so far but are populating a bunch of 1 gallons now that are taking up space themselves. I'm hoping they'll be blooming size next year. I've also got 2 large containers with cannas that are new that I started from rhizomes and of course each year, my shrubs get bigger and bigger. LOL

I gotta do some serious reworking out there. I guess in a way, I'm glad I didn't have to deal with the penstemons this year because there is no place to put them - especially where there's enough sun. :-o

Sarah nothing would please me more then to take a road trip and visit everyone. Taking them flowers that I have and picking up others. Sounds like a great way to spend the summer.
