Very pretty. I love the Lobelia 'Queen victoria' but read somewhere that it's not hardy in colder zones. My Lobelia cardinalis blooms are just getting going.

Why do you have chicken wire around the Goldflame vine?

A rabbit was eating the foliage of the goldflame that is the reason for the chicken wire.

How did you overwinter your Black and Blue? I have a large container filled with them and it would be a shame to lose them at the end of the season. TIA

After we had a few frosts and temps are steady in the 40s or colder I dampen the container and cut it back to where it will all go inside of a black bag , tie the bag and let it set inside the garage all winter. If you have a large container you may need to buy those contractor size bags.

Steve, your hummer plants are absolutely beautiful! Love the Lobelia. My L. cardinalis doesn't start blooming until late August into fall. This blooms earlier???

I haven't been on the forum because I haven't had any hummer activity at all. I have yet to see any spring action, but will continue to hang feeders in hopes of getting a few. I just don't get any until July, and I finally have just one. He/she loves, loves, loves the Dwarf Red Porterweed that I planted this year. It is a tropical, but I will continue to plant it now that I know how much the hummers like it.

My seed starting of S. darcyi completely failed. Could not get one seedling to survive. Grrrr. But will try again next year if I can find some seeds.

The Flame Acanthus is just now getting going so am anxious to see if the hummers will like it, too. It is hardy in my zone, so have put a couple in the ground. This one grows very, very easily from seed. If I get some seed from it will be happy to send you some if you're interested. You could probably overwinter it like your Black and Blue.
