White Oak

White Oak is having their clearance sale. For the new people who have not heard of them they have fabulous hostas at good prices. Their sale prices are fabulous. It's a good way to expand your selection. click on the Refridge Sale on the right side of the page.

This year was my second for ordering from them and my order came last week - sorry, no photo to post. The Emerald Necklace had 13 pips!

Thanks for the heads up, Teresa! I may be able to now replace some of the many I lost in the strange winter weather.

    Their refrigerator sales looks fabulous!

teresa, do you know if this nursery tests their stock for HVX?

Very nice prices! But I was wondering about HVX too. Anyone buy from there or know anything?

this is the second year I have received hostas from them. Their plants look incredibly healthy. They come highly recommended by many regular forum members including Ken_Adrian. I don't know for sure if they test for the virus. Can anyone out there shed any light on this?
My only regret is that I did not know about them when I first started collecting; that is how pleased I have been with my 2 orders.

Their names are Bob and Brenda Keller. They send very friendly emails and if I had any doubts I would not hesitate to email them. Their email is hostas@whiteoaknursery.com

    Hope this helps!

Teresa, I knew I should have went out side to mow my grass instead of going to the forum. Now I have 10 more Hosta to dig holes for. Yikes, will it ever STOP ???

Phil, the answer to your question is NO! It will never stop! LOL!

I got 8 hostas from White Oak this year. I am very impressed with them. They send them bareroot, and the roots were HUGE! I wasn't ready to plant them because I have to prepare a new bed, so I put them in pots. Gallon pots weren't big enough to hold those roots! WOW! I'm so excited to see how my new bed is going to look once I get them all planted.

teresa & smorz, no, they don't test for it. Bob says that it's pretty easy to spot, they don't have it, and foliar nematodes are a much bigger concern.

In searching online, I found no complaints, concerns, or less than stellar remarks about this nursery, so I submitted an order for a dozen cultivars (a few with a minimum purchase of 3/ea).

I'm very excited about my order and really look forward to seeing their huge, healthy roots!!! :-)

FWIW, it has been reported that HVX can remain dormant in hosta for up to 7 years, not easy to spot until it manifests. Does White Oak have nematodes?

My last order from White Oak was exceptional but this year I'm being so good.

Oh how I wish this place was a retail nursery as well as mail order. It's not all that far from me and I love going to nurseries to see all the plants and pick some out to bring home. Don't know if I'll be ordering anymore, still have several to find room for yet. But it is sooo tempting when you are at a nursery and can SEE the plants and touch them and hear them beg for you to take them home ;-)

I'm sure I'll probably add a few more.

For $52 (including shipping). I picked up the following hosta:

    American Sweetheart
    Elvis Lives
    Gold Regal
    Strip Tease x 3
    Thunderbolt
    Torchlight

Thanks for the heads up Teresa!

maryann, White Oak does not have foliar nematodes ~ to clarify, Bob merely stated (in general) that he believes they are a larger concern than HVX.
