Hoyaplants.com

Hello friends...can anyone tell me if they've ordered from or dealt with Hoyaplants.com? They have an incredible list of hoyas available...generous cuttings. They have hoyas that I've been unable to find anywhere...even in Thailand. While reading the list of hoyas I had the impression that it was an Asian website....but, it's located in Florida. I e-mailed them 5 days ago and received no reply. I'm wondering if they've gone out of business, or are too busy to reply or simply didn't want to deal with me. I e-mailed them again today....so, we'll see.

BTW, I received an order from Almost Eden...they have hoyas available...but, only the most common ones...I did order 2 Hoya kerrii...very impressed with the plants...very large and beautiful. I also ordered 6 Euphorbia (Crown of Thorns)...I was SHOCKED at the size of these plants! They totally dwarf my 5 year old Euphorbia. I hate ordering just a plant or two...so I ordred the 8 plants. Just wanted to let you know what tremendous quality this nursery has...most of the Euphorbia are 18-20" in height...though some are miniature or are naturally short and extremely bushy. Some have small leaves, others very, very large leaves. Most are covered with blooms. Another amazing thing was the price...the Euphorbias were between 5.99 and 9.99 each...which is why I was expecting small plants. I know this is totally OT...but, the Crown of Thorns is a great plant to have....mine is constantly in bloom(literally)...for 5 years now....it always has 4 or 5 bloom heads, and they're very easy to care for. I'm now wondering why it took me so long to buy the very common H. kerrii...it's a very beautiful hoya! Sorry to interrupt the hoya discussion...but, someone may find this of interest. Fondly, Patrick

Patrick, what email address did you use? If you use the contact us one they never answer from that one, don't think it works, but use the one on the home page:
    jameshjacobs@bellsouth.net

He will answer pretty quickly. I haven't ordered from him before but I have emailed him a couple of times.

    Patrick,

I haven't tried Hoyplants.com myself because I've read a few posts that were less than flattering. However, I'd wait to hear from some folks who've dealt with them recently to see what recent experience has been.

I grow lots of Crown of Thorns, too, though I certainly would have no room for any more big varieties. (My last two aquistions were miniatures...) But you're right - they bloom constantly, which is what I love about them. On the dreariest winter day, I can admire the beautiful blooms on my Crown of Thorns. I'll have to check out Almost Eden myself.

Patrick, I've ordered from them before. The price for cutting not the rooted plant. They do put up some rooted cuttings on ebay time to time. Price is a bit higher than some of places but they do have good variety available.

Patrick, Almost Eden is a great place to get plants! I bought my Pink Silver from them and I am very satisfied with it!

Uh oh, Denise, another Crown of Thorns addict in your midst! Still haven't found one but I'll look when I go to Wal-Mart tonight.

    HI Patrick,
I, too, have ordered from hoyaplants.com and received nice cuttings. I think it took a few days before I received a reply from them, once I sent the email. You might want to send the email again and just say you had sent it once before, but didn't hear anything back from them and figured the original email never made it to them.

    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for the good recommendation on Almost Eden...I will have to check them out and see if they have hoyas on my "must have" list. I've never ordered from hoyaplants.com but I have drooled over their lists before,lol...

Jan, what is their member name on Ebay?

Nancy, I can not remember. Sorry.

Hoyaplants.com's ebay ID is special-edition1. I have won several of their auctions and have been sent beautiful, full plants. They always have answered my emails promptly. I used the email address on their homepage.

Thanks Leslie for the information. Good to know that they have nice plants. Will have to check them out on ebay.

    Patrick,

Here is my experience with them. They mislabel plants (which many places do, so I'd let that one slip), they significantly overcharge for what you are getting, and they mislead you into thinking you are getting a fully rooted plant when it is a small pot of barely rooted cutting/s (IF they are even rooted at all!). Oh, and I also remember they charged a ridiculous amount of money for shipping.

There was a whole thread about them on another forum, and no matter what the posters in the thread said to them, they refused to acknowledge their poor service (or better yet to change it). So I'd stay clear away from them, unless they have changed their ways.

If you'd like some more info about them, I can try to dig it up from the other forum. Just send me a private email.

Gabi...wow...that's certainly enough to stop me from ordering from them! I e-mailed twice from their homepage...and received no response. I was interested in a few hoyas that David Elliot showed on another thread...beautiful hoyas. I was amazed that they had so many hoyas that I've been looking for. Denise...they even have H. dennisii...gorgeous plant and blooms!! I placed an order for 7 hoyas...all rather uncommon, and the total was around $150...not bad for the unusual ones...but, if they're mislabled...that'd be totally unethical. I also asked about H. purpureo-fusca...a very difficult one to find, as most of the ones sold in the U.S., according to Kloppenberg, Ted Green and Christine Burton, are in fact H. publicalyx. I ordered mine from Logee's...and it is H. publicalyx....now an enormous plant...so, I certainly don't want another. What a shame to find a grower with such desirable hoyas only to find out that they mislabel them! Dee, thanks a million for their direct e-mail address...I may e-mail them with my requests and mention that I'll stop payment IF the plants sent are mislabled...I certainly can tell the difference...I hope!! Yes, Denise...the euphorbias are delightful...it's just incredible to have plants indoors that are always in bloom...very inspiring! Thanks all for your help/suggestions!! Patrick

    Patrick,
I have what I truly believe is a purpureo-fusca. I got it from ebay one time and it looks just like the pictures I have seen. I have a picture which is copyrighted that I will send if you email me. My plant has never bloomed for me so I know nothing of the flowers. Please email if interested. You may do so through My Page. Just trying to help.

Leslie...I did e-mail you....thanks for your kindness!! Regarding Almost Eden, plz. keep in mind that their hoyas are only the most common types. Last year I ordered H. lacunosa from them...the plant is large and very nice...funny thing is that it only blooms in the autumn and winter...it's covered with buds now and just finished blooming a week ago. I did e-mail the address Dee provided and heard back right away....He or she said they were at a "plant" today and would send me a list of available plants tomorrow. I stressed to them that it was imperative that the plants were correctly I.D.'d. So, I'll see when I hear from them. It's not important to me that the cuttings are large...I've ordered from Logee's and Asiatica...so, I'm accustomed to puny plants!! LOL Thanks everyone, Patrick

    Patrick,
Is your lacunosa that flowers in the fall-winter have fuzzy leaves? if so then it is H. sp. Geri (erroneously called pubera or nummularioides) again errors in naming by you know who.
This species is known as H. sp. Geri and has fragrant white with red centered under the corona flowers that bloom seasonally usually Fall to winter. The plants are covered in them. There are several forms I believe form 1,2,3,4.
