Yeah but I think it's to keep an eye on the other hummers tonight we had three inches of rain come down in an hour and it looked like a flood from the sky,The hummers came to the feeders in the downpour They did not use the feeder under the humbrella at first they used the window feeder then they used the feeder with the humbrella and everytime the male came to the feeder the female would dive bomb him they finally sat together under the humbrella feeding on the saucer feeder that lasted all of two seconds and they were off chasining each other again then they go up to a branch and the little head looks right looks left non stop here are some pictures I took of the hummer turning her head left then right they are not very clear but I think that's what you meant. yes, I've seen that when they perch. good observation. I think sarah is right. they are on constant lookout for other hummingbirds divebombing them. nice series, sarah. sometimes when they do this, their red gorget is only visible when they're turned one way, and I can see a little red 'light' blinking on and off.

Yes I watched that 'dance' on and off yesterday. It does like they are guarding the feeder just waiting for another hummer to show up. When that other one does show up the fun begins. I had six doing this yesterday.

How cute! I was noticing that dance also. It's amazing how quickly they move! :) I sure wish I had all their energy...........hey wait maybe I should start a steady diet of sugar water!!!!!!!!! LOL Marcy
