That sounds like a fabulous evening. I just got home from work, but took a cue from your experience and went for a walk before darkness sets in. I poked around my backyard to see what's in bloom and what's budding up...nothing really changed from earlier today, but still nice to immerse myself in that and forget about the job. I stopped to sniff the light fragrance from my datura moonflower, as a new bloom was opening. Then I wandered down the block and caught the fragrance of a neighbors patch of 4 o'clocks. It's a nice, clear evening with a temp of around 70 degrees and a very subtle breeze. All the windows are open and a fan is helping exchange the warm inside air for some cooler fresh air. It'll be another good night to sleep with the windows open....Pacific Northwest air conditioning at its best!

Patrick your evenings sound wonderful too. This morning found me with my coffee out in the yard seeing the Mrs. come in for breakfast several times. All too soon it was time to go inside and start the day!

Hi Charlotte,

I made 2 trips to the backyard this morning.
1rst trip - wore t-shirt, shorts & flipflops...coffee in hand.
(didn't stay long)
2nd trip - changed to full-length jeans, shoes & socks and added a light jacket over the t-shirt!

Temperature was about 59F. and an on-again-off-again breeze. Sky is clear & the sun is up. A bit of dew still lingers.

Wasn't too cold the 1rst time for a brief walkabout, but I decided it wasn't "cozy" for pulling up a chair and enjoying the morning...so I went back for warmer clothes and a 2nd cuppa.

I was rewarded with a hummer visit to some tall salvia sporting small red-orange blooms. She hovered very prettily for me a few times between feeding at various blossoms. There was a slightly surreal quality to it...hard to describe, but a certain extra crispness to the clarity of the low-angled morning sun. I'm glad I have my mornings free for moments like this. I wish such special moments for everyone.

Those were great descriptions! It's a wonder to see them and to be able to sit back in a leisurely setting and enjoy their visits, is heaven!

Patrick I loved your account of your morning outings with coffee in hand! We must be long lost cousins! :-)

This evening I went outside with a bright red top on and my book to watch the evening activity. I wasn't out long before the first hummingbird appeared at the feeder. It was around 6:00 PM daylight savings time.

Our neighbors, a senior couple, asked me what Dave and I are doing outside each night at this time. When I told them we were watching the hummingbirds they got excited. We invited them to join us and soon they were over, lawn chairs and all to watch the evening entertainment begin.

They were so excited when they saw their first hummingbird! This was their first time to see them other than on television. Since we have two feeders, we sat where we could see both of them. They would get all excited when one would come to the backyard feeder and then the front feeder. I think they were a bit sad when it became too dark to see them anymore. Dave and I are guessing we will have "company" with us in future evenings now.

It is fun to introduce friends to the magic of the hummers.

Yes it is Charlotte. I have introduced hummingibrds to my whold family. Now we all watch for them. I am having them all day long now. I can't get outside with seeing them or hearing the talking and fussing with each other. It is going to be so lonesome when they are gone for the winter.

O the simple joys of life! How sweet it is!

I'm having them all day long too now. Wonder if that means they are going to migrate south earlier than usual. I sure hope not...I will miss them!
