As a follow up on the new feeders I will keep the aspects jewel box even though they seem hesitant to use it. But the droll yankee happy eight hangs lopsided and drips. They tell you to fill it full and it will be more stable but I didnt find it to be so , it still hangs lopsided and drips out the high side attracting bees, too bad as the hummers use it and you can get a nice view of them drinking thru the clear bottom. But its not for me. If I get another it will be the suction type and not the hanging. This is truly a bad design in my opinion.

Update: They sell a pole mount that exactly fits the bottom of this thing that will make the fluid always sit level so they say, but I guess you have to make sure the pole itself is perfectly level. To bad the pole isnt part of the package more people might keep it. look at the wasps gorgeing themselves on the drip[leakage].

I am really surprised that it leans, and that it leans enough to drip! I have the Droll Yankee LF3 which has 4 ports and it does not drip or lean at all.

What are you hooking it onto?

I also have the Aspects Jewel Box and it has taken only about a day for a young one to find it. I also ordered a small window bird feeder hanger from Nottawa that is terrific for a Hummzinger mini--it is now hanging at one window and they already know what it looks like because that is what they use here everyday. I am thankful to those of you who mentioned Nottawa because their prices are fantastic.

Steve, I'm beginning to have a slight wasp problem. Did you mention some sort of guard in an earlier post? There are just a few but I'd like to get it under control if possible. Thanks.

What kind of feeders Donna? I know with my Droll Yankee window feeder, which is one piece, you can fill too high and that makes it possible for the wasps to stick their head in the hole, at least on my droll. I started to only fill it to where they recommended and the wasps stopped coming. The lf-3 droll you cannot overfill as it is a two piece base, though I don't fill it right to the very top.

I don't think there is much you can do for the ones that drip. :c(

Steve, how full are you filling that Droll which I believe is a one piece like their window feeder? The window feeder instructions state to fill up up the the widest part. I have a feeling that you are going much higher on yours if it is leaking out of the holes.

The droll yankee I bought was the new happy eight and the rep I talked to said it leaned when hung but said it should hang right when full, hey I gave it a try didnt work sending it back.

Donna-- I too dont know what kind of feeders you have. the ones that drip will attract wasps or bees. I got rid of some feeders because of that very reason. The tiny walmart one port feeders theres no help there they will leak and even with a bee guard wasp will be there. The only thing Ive found to help on those is back off on the mix 1:7 it at least slows them down and the hummers will still use it. The first nature feeders do pretty well very little wasp attraction there just clean em well and use a port brush . Same with the pp209.

So far the hummers still wont use the aspects jewel box , some cant figure it out others just dont seem to like it . If it doesnt get used in the first couple of weeks in august it will never get used. In that case guess I will just sell it.

My feeders are the PP 4 individual ports, the PP 209, Hummzingers and 3 First Nature from Walmart. None of my feeders ever drip, but the few wasps I have are on the PPs.
I have discovered one nest in the process of being built in a decorative bird house hanging on the wall on my breezeway...have removed it so hopefully that has eliminated them for the time being!

Sometimes if the wasps are just on the bottle part they may just be after some moisture. But if there is any dried nectar on the base of say the pp209 the wasps will find it and come back to that spot. That is why I started using hot water soap and a sponge , sometimes the mix will drip down below the perch on the crease right under the rim and those areas have to be soap washed everytime you clean to keep the wasps away. I also use a port brush first before I soap wash. Forget all that hogwash about soap leaving a residue and hummers not coming back to the feeder, just rinse well with cold water and they will always come back to it.

Still extremely limited use the jewel box, but Im gonna pull a little trick on em. Im going to let the other window feeder run dry to force more to go to the jewel box.
