I decided to get the mini size, as I figured [a] I didn't have a lot of hummies (perhaps 4-6); and [b] Since they only hold 8 oz, I can refill them more often to keep the solution fresh, and the level will not go down beyond the reach of their tongues (although if you saw that picture of the hummy's tongue, it may well get to the bottom of any feeder!)

I got mine through the internet. Did a google on HUMMZINGER and looked through the offerings for best price and shipping cost. Bought two, one for the front of the house and one for the back. So far, so good.

I have 3 mini feeders. They are perfect unless you get tons of birds at one time. It is easy to refill with fresh nectar...not much waste.

I have two minis and an original. I like the minis better (the hummers have no preference). I think I have approximately, maybe, could be, eight different adults (I have confirmed 5 at a time). (Did I mention I hate Frank?? LOL) I change solution every 2-3 days and they don't empty the minis between fillings(except in the last 2-4 weeks when they have been fattening up and all of this years hatch are feeding). The hanger mechanism for my original broke after one year of use. My minis are 3 or 4 years old and still in perfect condition.

The important thing is that both models are EXTREMELY quick and easy to clean.

Isn't it true with these type of feeders that if they are not totally full all the time or angled correctly the hummies will not be able to get at the nectar?

When I first started using saucer type I had the same concern. However, nectar level is not a problem with the mini or original. At least with RTs, their tongue can easily reach the bottom of the saucer.

I have the 8oz Mini with three ports and wish I'd bought the 16oz Excel with six ports. My thought in choosing the smaller one was not to waste a lot of nectar the hummingbirds couldn't reach if I only put a few ounces in. That turned out to be an unjustified worry, because hummingbirds can apparently lap them (and a few other brands) completely dry. Now that there's more traffic at the feeders, the six ports and larger volume would really come in handy.

I never thought I'd see Hummingbirds share a feeder here, but in the past week or so they've been using all available ports and waiting in line (or butting another hummer out of the way) at their favorite location. Their preference for that tree is inexplicable, but for some reason they choose to share three feeders there rather than spread out among the many other feeders in the yard. So... the more ports the better, imo.

I've never had a problem with the hummies reaching the nectar if the saucer is off balance or not completely full. I love to look at them through the binoculars and see their tongues go all the way to the bottom. It's pretty impressive to see!

I have a mini and love it. Since I don't get all that many hummers, I need to change the nectar sooner than it ever gets emptied, so I'm not wasting that much. I mix only 8 oz at a time in a Tupperware shaker. It's easy to clean. I don't really need the ant moat because I have mine hanging from the rain gutter, so ants don't seem to be a problem. And it looks good in pictures!

I have a Hummzinger Ultra sitting in my kitchen right now. My hummingbirds just didn't like it. So I see no reason to use it.

Maybe I can sell it on e-bay.

I've got one of the Wild Birds Unlimited saucer type feeders, which I mistakenly called hummzinger for the longest time (it looks practically the same from what I can tell). It's got 6 holes. The hummers love it. It was my first feeder and is still popular even though I now have 3 other feeders (which aren't saucer types, and are all being used as well). It doesn't hang off balanced at all (I used to use a Perky Pet Oasis and it hung off balance real badly).

Now that I've reread the title of this post, I probably shouldn't even be commenting since mine isn't truly a hummziner (even though it's awfully close), huh? ;-) Oh well...

I have the 4-port model. I think it is the Original. I don't think my hummers ever saw one before. They ignored it forever. Feeding regularly on nearby plants. It was early August before it was used much. Now, my dominate female has figured out how nice it is to perch and eat. My Hummzinger has become more popular than the plants, which are still blooming strongly. I suspect the nearing fall migration requires a higher rate of feeding vs. energy comsumption.

The resident population here also ignored a new Hummzinger for two months, but once one adult female figured it out, the others learned from her. It's become a useful feeder, so I've changed about it, but I don't think any single brand of feeder is the best thing to have during migration if it's the only one in the yard.

The birds passing through are apparently accustomed to different designs of feeders or have no experience with feeders at all. I've watched new arrivals pecking at different parts of the feeders, including the hanging chains, ant traps, bottles, and bottoms. When they hang back and observe other hummingbirds, they figure it out in just a minute. However, if there are no other hummers around, they fly off.

Although someone has suggested not giving hummingbirds a choice between a Hummzinger and others, I think doing just the opposite is the best strategy if you want them to stop in and stay a while. Peoples' priorities differ: easy vs. laborious for human or easy vs. laborious for bird.

I just got a new three hole saucer feeder from Wild Birds Unlimited so I checked the box. The reason that it seems so similar to a hummzinger is that it is made for them by Aspects, the manufacturer of the hummzinger.

I also have the Ultra and they seem to go those as much as my bottle feeders.

Hi, I have a Hummzinger wannabe saucer shaped one, and until I put this out didn't realize hummers could actually sit there stationery and feed, thought they only fed in flight, anyway they seem to like it. Is this Hummzinger plastic?? Can't use glass ones here, too cold in winter, will freeze and break. Thanks Kathy

Question for CatLady --- do you ever have a problem with cats and hummers, I've had a stray cat coming into our yard and tried to catch a hummer at the hardy fuchsia - when I ran out to protect the hummer it was hovering stationery about 5 feet and making a buzzing sound.

I have the perky pet oasis which is 'similar' to the apparantly, 'better' hummzinger~ However, I have been very pleased with this. It's so easy to clean! I have the one that was yellow top with red flowers, we painted the top red~ Seems to work great! Plus we got it online as clearance~ !

Two Mini's and they have been lapped dry before!

I use the ultra and love it. Even with my neighbors using the traditional perky pet, we still had equal numbers of hummers. Both of my feeders are saucer style and work great. I really like the ease of cleaning.
