Put it into a bucket of water and wait until you get new growth, both leaf and root. In the spring, plant it against a mature tree, on the south side of the tree if possible.

I have about 6 of these. The ones on a hill don't do much but the ones that are protected by my fence are huge. I am curious if you can get one to grow by rooting it this way...hummm.

I have successfully grown monstera from the method mentioned by Ricky, but one little experiment I did was to put an aquarium heater in one of my 4 water containers and maintained a temperature of 30C, within a week white roots appeared in the one with heater while the other three took nearly a month to do so... I took these cuttings in January which is like middle of our mild winters...

easy to start, just stick it in a pot of soil, keep warm and moist, will take off come spring. i cut a bunch of small ones this week in case i lose the big ones. nice and toasty in the heated room!

Plant it in soil.
It doesn't make sense to put an air root in a bucket of water.
Water roots are brittle and inefficient when it comes time to plant/transplant.

This is three years of growth from those "fragile water roots".

Is that a Monstera or a Philodendron? Doesn't look Monstera to me.

Regardless, has it been growing for three years in water?

Or did you transplant it three years ago? If the latter, then it's had plenty of time
to re-grow non-brittle, efficient soil roots. water roots and soil roots are different creatures.
But you know that.

Josh - It's Monstera deliciosa. It grew water roots over a winter and then those roots were threaded through the roots of the Queen Palm it's attached to. It went in the ground 3 years ago.

Are you sure? It looks an awful lot like Philodendron selloum (or something like that).
Monstera deliciosa doesn't typically have such regularly divided leaves. I have a large one in my living room.
Can we seek a second opinion?

Josh - Learn your plants. Philodendron selloum is a scandant vine, Monstera is a clinging, climbing vine. This one has fruited each year with the standard upright fruit. And you are comparing this to a plant in your living room???

Yep, that's what I'm doing.
And I'm also waiting for a second opinion on your Philodendron.
Until then, perhaps we could be a bit more civil toward one another.

It definitely looks like a Monstera deliciosa in the first pic with leaves, I've been growing them for more than 9 years now.. also have a yellow variegated variety...
