Our feeder has had more hummers this summer than I've ever seen before, and DH and I have had a ball watching them. And ducking - the feeder's on the back porch, and it's a little hazardous going in & out the back door when there's a dogfight going on!

Right now, we're getting the aftermath of Katrina, with driving rain & wind gusts. I took the feeder down after dark last night, afraid that it would blow away and sure that the hummers would be laying low today. But when I went out the back door this morning, a hummer flew off! So, I refilled the feeder & put it back up. It's on a swiveling bracket, so I turned it so that it's under cover for them.

They've been on it all morning, two and three battling at a time, and I'm amazed at their resilience! The rain is coming down HARD - can they fly between the raindrops, or what???

And does anyone know why there seem to be so many more than usual this year? I'm from Louisville, and have been hearing the same thing from other people around here. (Apologies if the question has already been addressed - it's my first time to this forum.)
