If it gets enough water, what do you have to lose? Just put something you have a lot of (nothing expensive) and give it a try! The only reason I don't do hanging baskets is the constant watering and you have that problem solved!

Now I'm in the fortunate position where I get to pull up one of my existing Hosta's and replace it with a new one :)

No it's not a crazy idea. I have done this and it's my second year. I have five baskets. They are not the conventional baskets but corrigated. There are 7 holes aroung the middle which I tuck in impatients. The hosta's are just more common ones. Except Cherry Berry. It's in one and is doing much better there because the slugs can't get it.

What happens is the impatients bloom out and it makes a ball of color. The hostas are happy if given enough water.
Place the baskets during winter in the garage so they rest and bring them out in the spring. It's the same process that I use with hosta's in a planter. Has worked so far.

These baskets are along my fence and they do get ample sunlight.

What an awesome idea for some of the cascading varieties.
