I got a surprise with Basil this year too. I usually keep it cut back so it doesn't flower, but I got behind this year. One day recently, I was glancing out the window and a hummer was all over those Basil blooms!

Oh, was I supposed to cut it back? Someone gave me the seeds and I just let them grow. :-)

Good to hear someone else has seen the same thing. I hope everyone plants lots of Basil for next year - and don't cut it back.

Thanks for the information about Basil, Donna!
I tend to cut mine back before bloom so I can make pesto.If the Basil doesn't go to seed I can make more pesto in 4-6 weeks.
This year, I planted more Basil than I needed and haven't "harvested" a few of them. They are near my feeder so I'll just let them bloom.
