My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.
Wow, Cheryl, that is beautiful! How long does it bloom for you? Does it have any vices? I have Dombeya seminole. I love it, but this year it suffered from dieback. It still has bloomed a lot even in partial sun, but it is rather thin. Mine has no fragrance at all.
Katkin, I have heard you love to train things as standards. I bet this looks beautiful as one. Could you give us all a tutorial sometime about how you do it and show some pics? I would love to see pics of both you ladies' yards. Please?
Thanks for posting the ID! The one I got from you went gang busters. Great plant for this area! I just love the fuzzy leaves too. Smell is great as well.
Anna, I am sorry but I've never learned how to use a camera, I guess I never really had a desire to take pictures. I am too busy playing in the dirt.
As far as traing a plant to a standard, I get a small one with a straight leader, prune off anything else and let it grow. I support it with rebar if necessary keeping all side branches that I don't want pruned. It takes some work and some years to get some into "trees". And suckers need to be remove quickly so the energy stays with the leader.
As for blooming, it's a little later this year probably because of that early cold snap we had right after Thanksgiving. Bloom time is 4-5 months, 10th of Dec till May.
Mine is 10-12 foot tall, crepe myrtle shaped, with a couple of leaders. This one has 4" balls of white flowers that bloom up and down the branch.
The wallichii - also a winter bloomer - blooms Christmas to March, It has 5" hanging balls of pink flowers. AKA: The Christmas Ball Tree which you can see one at the Florida Botanical Gardens here in Largo.
