Hey Tom !

I don't have any Aloe Vera but have noticed quite a few large plants around town that have been covered up with blooms and wondered if any of "my Hummers" have been taking advantage of them.

Hey, Lee, good to hear from you. How are you doing for hummers this year?

The aloe vera needs sun and not much water. I finally found a good place for it in my yard and it's thriving.

My neighbor has one in bloom and yes the hummers love it.

Tom, I'm pretty sure I have 5 birds this year !

On a couple of occasions I've had 3 at one time on various plants in the yard ! At least until one of them spotted another !!!!!!!!

Aloes provide nectar for Sunbirds in Africa, and the Hummingbirds love them over here! As most Aloe are not frost hardy, I grow them as houseplants, and put them out from May through October. Some Aloes bloom in the winter, or grow quite large, so I look for smaller growing hybrids which bloom in the summer. Examples would include 'Lizard Lips', 'Doran Black', and 'Dapple Green'. Gasteria is a genus of plants in the same family as Aloe, and Hummingbirds enjoy those as well.
