The hummingbirds at my house really seem to like Canna indica, Canna indica 'Red Stripe' and 'Robert Kemp'. I have grown hybrid varieties like Wyoming, Cleopatra and Orange Crush but the hummingbirds were never interested in those.

I dont have cannas but I do have something similar in the crocosmia lucifer which the hummers use some but it is not the draw that other plants such salvia black and blue and agastache tutti frutti and rupestris, and certain cupheas such as david verity and shumannii are.

Hummersteve how do you get the cupheas through winter. Red

Red--- I dont, I take cuttings in august nurse them thru the winter and plant them in may.

Steve mentioned Cuphea. I have one and the hummers like it, but all the new growth has white specks like dust on them. A magnifying glass shows tiny white bugs. I searched the net, found it, but no cure. The plant is dying. Any one know this pest?

Rob it is white fly. I would blast the plant with water. You can use Safer Soap but since the hummers are using it and it is outside I would go with the plain water. Get the underside of the leaves where they are hiding.
