they drink so much!

We started a couple months ago with a feeder and would have up to a couple hummers and changed the solution every five-seven days--until the feeder fell and broke. Last week our nice new red glass feeder arrived and we now have four hummingbirds at our feeder immediately (sometimes at the same time) and the drink us clean every day. I think there's about 1 cup of solution in the feeder. Is this normal?(I feel like we're doling out crack to starving hummers!) Perhaps it's due to the recent high temps, coupled with the drought? (Our community is landscaped but I have noticed a lower amt of flowering recently) My concern is also that we go away often and they might be relying on our feeder. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.
