Forgot to tell you I live in Kansas, that may help ID.

It's a juvenile male, most likely a Ruby Throated.

Thank you. It is so tiny I'm not sure if it is young or they are actually that small. I saw one with a blue head hovering nearby, but I have never seen him again. I have tried to attract hummers before without to much luck. I think I have to many other birds feeding in my yard. I first spotted this one when he was hovering outside the window looking in the house. I think he might have been attracted to my house plants. There is a bunch of silk violets near the window. I got out my feeder right away and hung it the only place I had. Later I went to a store and bought the suction cup feed that is in the picture. Now I see this little beauty every time I relax in my chair.

A man at a nursery recommended a Salvia called Evolution which attracts hummers and it really worked. She spends a lot of time there. The evolutions doesn't show up so well in this photo, it is the dark purple in the center. She feeds on both varieties.

If you saw blue, you may have a Black-chinned. You could be in that narrow strip of the US where the ranges of the Ruby Throated and Black-chinned overlap. The one in your photos could also be a Black-chinned, it's very difficult to tell them apart at that stage.

Having other birds in your yard won't keep the hummers from coming, in fact, I think the opposite is true - safety in numbers.
