Excellent capture, a mother will continue to feed a fledgeling up to a week after leaving the nest.

Thank you. Yes, I feel very priveleged to have witnessed this. nanaboo - I would love to find a nest too! I know they nest on our property as we have them at the feeders all summer, and get the fledglings in the fall, but I've never found one of the nests.

susan - yes it is near a feeder (two feeders actually). The feeders are located close to a stand of three spruce trees, so the kid was waiting in the spruce tree while mom fed, then came and fed him.

I have a bunch of pictures of juvies sitting on bare branches in the spruces. I will try to upload them this weekend. They are fun too because you can see Junior's head tilting around to look for a parent.

That is so interesting. My hummers love to perch on surrounding honeysuckle branches that dangle around their feeder. The male hangs out there warning the others off, and he sometimes hides in one of my two Austrian pines so he can surprise attack them when they think he's not looking. As in, "ha, gotcha!"

I have yet to see the baby babies like you, so I will be on the lookout next year.
