Don't take your feeders down yet

There are still lots of hummers moving south from Canada and the northern states. I just got a migrant last evening and she was a very hungry/thristy little tub. When she finally discovered the feeder after battling the high wind to reach the flowers she sat their on the perch and sipped for several minutes almost non stop. She came back to the feeder several times right up until dark and was back again before dawn this morning.

So even if it has been a while since you have had any hummers in your yard, please leave at least one feeder in an open area where the migrants can spot it as they make their way southward. Leave it up at least 2-3 weeks after you have seen your last hummer and longer if you are zable to maintain it. Even though I am in NY I leave 1 or 2 feeders up unti the temps reach freezing.
