Hybridizing Japanese Maples

Can any one tell me which Acer species can be successfully crossed? I'm specifically interested in Japanese varieties, but I realize we may have some closely related American species that could potentially form a successful cross. At this point it appears that at least Acer palmatum and Acer shirasawanum are compatible, as there are several hybrids on the market today. I have not yet heard of an Acer japonicum x palmatum or shirasawanum.

Any info would be appreciated!

Thanks,

K4
