Hummingbird Garden

Coral Bells--Heuchera

Do any of you grow Heuchera for the hummers. My neighbor and I have big clumps of them in bright pink. We both grow lots of different flowers. The hummers will pass by or occasionally go to the Bee Balm, Geraniums, Snaps, Nicotiana and our vines and other flowers, but if the Coral Bells are blooming they will always head for them the most. Those little flowers must hold lots of nectar, because the hummers seem to come back again and again.

Yes, I have heucheras, but by far the best attractants are salvias. Lots of hummer battles to defend these plants! Many bloom in the fall (some also in winter), so it's a good show right now. I keep some in pots at my kitchen window, so I can watch the hummers feed.

I have oodles of salvias, agastaches, cupheas etc. and when my red coral bells are blooming they are always used. In fact this year they were used more than my salvias. I added two more and divived the ones I already had.
