Winter Hardiness

I'm totally shocked - my Endless Summer hydrangea (with zero winter protection & just planted last summer) has made it completely through winter with no dieback at all. All of the leaf buds are green and just starting to open.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I covered up my Blue Bird lacecap hydrangea (which is about 7 years old now) with the usual burlap, and just took off the burlap yesterday (mid-April) - most of the leaf buds are green, but there are a few of the tips that are dead.

So, I guess this must mean that ES is hardier than the lace cap? The lacecap seems to be in a much more sheltered location, too... I can't wait to see if the ES will flower this year. I love the bluebird, by the way, it's my favourite so far.
