Female Rufous has returned!

In the Jan. 2010, I had an immature female Rufous show up in my yard. She was caught and banded that Feb. She left in April of that year. She returned in Dec. 2010 and was caught again in Jan. and ID'd as my rufous from the winter before. She left in March 2011. She showed up for the third year yesterday. From her actions, her using the same feeder and having the same white spots above her bill, we are sure it is her. You can also see the band on her right leg. Amazing that she could make the trip 3 times from the North West USA or BC down to Florida and 2 times back.

I was beginning to think she had moved on after not seeing her yesterday but late this afternoon she appeared - only feeding at the red pentas, not the feeder at all. The first few days she was here, she used both but now it seems she has replenished herself and isn't needing the feeder. I was so relieved to see her - happy to know she is okay and still around. Last year she would wander two houses down to a neighbor who hung feeders. Perhaps she likes their feeder better. I still am seeing an adult male and the immature male daily. Each has its own feeder and part of the yard it claims as its own.
