I didn't know there were fuschia vines either, I can't help but wonder about the label since so many plants get mislabeled. You should check in at the fuschia forum about hardy fuschia. I've seen photos of ten foot monsters in western Washington so I'm sure that's a hardy plant for you. As to whether fall is a good time to plant in your area, I can't say. In my zone they are hardy, but not if planted this time of year. They need time to get established before we freeze.
I think you are going to love growing the hardy ones. You live in the perfect climate for them, and certainly your Anna's Hummingbirds will thank you.

thanks for the post wardw on the fuchsia vine -- I saw it at one of the top nurseries in our area, but it was during a huge sale and couldn't get anyone knowledgeable to ask about it and can't find it in any garden books so far, will keep researching. I have one hardy fuchsia that I got this year and love it -- even had hummingbirds visit it which was really cool. They seem to bloom forever, mine's been blooming since early summer and still has a lot of flowers on it, gives the hummers something natural to drink at besides the feeders.

Yes, it is probably the perfect plant for the Northwest. Tonight my potted ones come, since it might freeze. I working slowly towards a huge one that stays on the porch in winter. We have two problem here, too cold in the winter and too hot and humid in the summer. You could almost hear the plants grumble in July.

I don't know anything about Fuchsia vines either, but I googled them and found this website. Perhaps this is your plant. If it is, it sounds like it will do fine in the Pacific northwest.

I have a pamphlet that list hummingbird fuchsias that I would love to get hold of. One is species fuchsia lycioides (aka Eric Walther), another is species fuchsia arborescens and for hanging basket fuchsia Cinnabarina as very choice. Anyone know a good fuchsia mail order source?
