Yes they can live indoors, I been growing a white one inside since I took the cuttings last fall and it's been blooming it's head off! I just took a cutting from it today to start another one.

South or west sunny window, it doesn't need direct sun but BRIGHT light. Keep the soil moist, use a well draining mix. Feed every 2 weeks with a half strength solution of miracle grow or similar 10-10-10, 20-20-20 fertilizer.

I just found out this morining that what I had "blooming it's head off" was a pink Impatien.(I thought it was a Begonia. Obviously I am totally new to this plant thing.) I just had it in whatever soil I bought at the local department store. I had to transplant it out of the styrofoam cup my son brought it to me in last year for Mother's Day. It quickly outgrew the cup as you can imagine. All I have ever done with mine is keep the soil moist. It has only been outside twice. Once when my son brought it home and then again when we moved into our new home. It has lived it's life either in a east window and presently in my southern facing window.
