Impatiens omeiana can be started by cuttings but they are not as easy as the bedding type. Your best bet would be to do divisions as it spreads underground. When you divide them they are the same clone so they will not cross with each other. There are currently two different clones of I. omeiana the Don Jacobs 'Eco Hardy' with leaves that look like a New Guinea Impatiens and 'Ice Storm' with silver netting running through the leaves. Recently I and my counter parts in Europe have obtained about four new clones and soon they will be released and people can start breeding new leaf patterns.

Thanks for the information. Since my original post, I repotted the plant I had bought and discovered just how vigorous a grower it is. I was able to take several divisions and all are now sitting in a shady part of the greenhouse, waiting for slightly warmer weather before being planted out.
