I remember reading on that as well. It would be worth a shot and they really arent that expensive. There are many wild species that like to grow on stream sides some will grow as simi aquatics. I know the North American natives will grow that way.

Down here in our heat, we put them in our filters and waterfalls. I just picked up two sixpacks for a buck each, and have them in my gravel filters. They seem to tolerate more sun, that way.
