There really isn't a reason you shouldn't have hummers all winter. Its really odd how some of us in Lakeland don't have them in the summer and someone else within a mile will have several that they see everyday. I have them in the winter (3 now) and started seeing them in late August migrating through. Will see them on the way north till about late April. May thru July would be a rareity for me to see one.

Be on the lookout for ones with a band on the right leg.
Banders will be down in Jan. and probably Feb to catch and band wintering birds. They are trying to determine where are winter ones go when they leave us.

My Rufous is really enjoying my red Pentas and the immature one is loving the Hot Lips Salvia, Coral Nymph, Pineapple Sage, Black and Blue Salvia and the Red Shrimp plants. He also uses the feeder rountinely. Am really hoping these 3 stay the winter.

I wondered where to look for the band, i.e., left or right foot. Good info.

How wonderful that you have three visiting regularly. I hope they continue to grace your yard through the winter as well.
