I have heard of people planting them along their ponds and they seem to do all right. Many species of Impatiens grow near ponds and water falls. One species call Impatiens irvingii can grow in boggy soils even in a couple of inches of water. This species is available from Kartuz's Greenhouse. It looks a lot like a walleriana but has narrow fuzzy leaves.

i just saw this post and so now i am trying it.

i bout 2 small contsainers and i planted them in rocks in a clay pot.

i removed as much dirt an i could.. so maybe i will have luck with it.

i also planted african violets in water...no dirt just water.
and it thrived so great my mother in law begged me for it..

so now i have to do it again...

Hi, I plant impatiens in my pond every year with great success. I put them in my waterfall (IN the waterfall, ha ha), I plant them along edges and I also float them in my pond. I use a little plastic pot that plants come in from the store and put a can floatie around it and plant impatiens in it...gives great color...good luck!
