It looks pretty and that is what counts. The bedding type Impatiens are so crossed with other forms that some special ones come out. It looks as though it has some of the Star blood in it. The Star series is unstable in its markings which is so frustrating to breeding companies. The Stardust series is much more stable. I think that this maybe something like akin to that.

You're right of course, that it's being pretty is what counts. I just thought it was gorgeous and hadn't seen anything like it. I'll look into the Stardust, etc. - thanks for the tip!

When you say it's unstable... do you mean it won't come true from seed? Or that even cuttings may revert to "non-starred"?

Unstable as in not every flower will have a perfect star pattern. Some may be solid red or may have a few white spots.
