Damping off - Captan

Last weekend I planted four pots of store-bought impatiens. Two days ago I noticed that two of the pots had plants which were damping off. Today I applied Captan, spraying it on the soil and all over the plants themselves. Is this the way to do it? It is possible to over-do it?

I am wondering that the chances are that the remaining plants will survive, and whether I am better off tossing everything out, replacing the soil, and starting over (and, of course, continuing to treat the new plants and soil with Captan. I have a lot of land, so soil is free, and I can replace all the plants for $15.
