Impatiens stoppped flowering

Hello,

My new guinea impatiens are bought in bloom and planted every year in my window box on the full shade side of my house. For the first few weeks they are full of flowers then the flowers disappear and they spend the summer as green plants barely flowering anymore.

Am I doing something wrong? What makes them flower in the first place and then just stop flowering once I buy them and plant them?

I live in Massachusetts if that helps.

try mixing 50/50 old coffee grounds and peat moss... pure magic !!!

4 hour of indirect eastern exposure sun then semi-shady the rest of the day... the shady side of your eastern facing porch and of course the 50/50 coffee grounds/peat moss mix are a tried and true combination that works !!!

bobdaslob, do you mix your 50/50 combination with potting soil?

This year I have a similar problem but never got the full bloom despite the same Miracle-Gro flower food application and watering schedule. They are situated in three different soil and light locations which have resulted in fine bloom for the past 2-3 years.

Can you use coffee grounds alone?

New Guinea Imps do like some sun, don't they?? I have mine in a very sunny spot and they're doing famously... if it's that shady, why not try the regular impatiens??? Might have better luck with blooming?
