How to save the seeds?

This is my first year for impatiens, so please forgive my ignorance.

I'm finding what I'm assuming are little green seed pods all around my plants. Can I just take the seeds out of the seed pods that are laying around or do they have to ripen or dry out or something?

I have four different colors of impatiens. Is it possible the seeds might be cross pollinated from the different colors (so they possibly wouldn't have the same flower color as the plant they fell off of)?

Thanks,

Deanna
