If you want colors, you can grow anything like Glowing Embers (h. macrophylla) in bright shade. I have a line of Endless Summer planted along a north wall and the color ranges from pink to to blue as the soil's pH is different from one end to the other.

Annabelle (h. arborescens) is more SUN tolerant than h. macrophyllas.

Here's my north wall from last summer:

Wow that's beautiful!

Newbie questions: Do endless summers bloom on new or old growth? My Glowing embers won't flower this year.. :( because with cold weather last year's growth died. I think I need some hydrangea bloom in my life this summer, so need others ASAP.

ES blooms on both. I'd recommend a 3-gallon pot at Home Depot. They run around $26 apiece.

There are a whole variety of H. macrophylla that bloom on both old and new growth (remontant.) Endless Summer is one that I really like since it is rock hardy and I am at the northern end of where H. macrophyllas grow, and mine does well in an area that gets the same kind of light as yours, but I'd do some research in your area to see what is available around you as well as what does well in your area. ES is readily available in many areas, but it may not be the best choice for everyone. If you do a search in GW on ES, you will get a broad range of opinions.
