growing flowering cherries and japanese maples

Hey guys. I have a couple of trees I'd like to try this spring, but am unsure if they'll be able to survive our winters. I'm located just south of cedar rapids in what is considered zone 5a. The trees in question are flowering cherry trees - yoshino and kwanzan, and a japanese bloodgood maple tree. All three are listed as appropriate for zone 5, but since I am just barely in zone 5 I'm looking for other success stories before wasting my time and money with them. Let me know what you think; thanks.
