Ticks; shade ,leaves, groundcover?

Many tick control documents say to get rid of leaves and compost piles because they are moist and ticks require shady moist areas.

Question: If my yard has lots of shade, lots of leafy shrubs, lots of bleeding hearts, pachasandra and other low plants; will getting rid of the leaf cover areas make any difference in helping get rid of ticks?

Where I have encountered Ticks has been while hiking in forests and unmowed fields, places that tend to be cool, shady, and moist. I have not encountered Ticks in compost piles, mulched planting beds, or mowed lawn, or under shade trees in yards, although I have heard from people that apparently have.
Keep in mind that predators of Ticks need somewhat the same environment to live in as Ticks do, so eliminating mulched planting beds, etc. may well be counterproductive.
