I just imagined it and would like to know the name of the dark wine hydrangea as well.
Have no clue what it may be, especialy for such money, but the most dark-almost black hydrangea I ever saw was a deep-deep cobalt-blue Enziandom grown in a pot with tightly controlled pH in 5.1-5.2 range, so it should be one of the naturaly dark reds grown in artificialy high pH medium, I guess.

I saw a small plant at Kroger that had a tag that said Wine Hydrangea.

Could it be a purple-ish blooming mophead like this one, Brooks23?

Yes it did look like that. It had a tag and I will read it better next time. Really winter here but I like to see the flowers and think of summer

Winter? what's that? ;o)

My oakleaf hydrangeas' leaves are still reddish/purplish and are loosing leaves at a very, very slow place. The macs' leaves have started to turn yellowish but they also appear not to be in a hurry to drop the leaves. The paniculatas went dormant "on schedule" in the Fall. The roses started blooming. And the early blooming Quince started blooming and leafing out two weeks ago. I hope the temps will not "crash" and damage plants and trees.

What a weird winter. At least the plants have only had dips around 29-31. Which is odd because the winter forecast said it would be wetter and colder than normal but, I just do not see the 'colder' part yet. It has been colder on other winters! Oh, well. Enjoy your winter but, stay indoors if it is windy!

I looked at the tag again today on the Wine hydrangea at Kroger and the planting zone is 7-8 so it sure would not work in my zone 6

Some of the mopheads can be like that (needing Z7 and above). You can grow them in Z6 but... you have to winter protect them to get reliable blooms. Oh well.
