Red Amaranth in ditch?

18 years ago

In North-eastern Iowa alone Interstate 20, I have been noticing a Red plant, actually more Maroon in color, that looks like Red Amaranth.

They look almost like this picture, but not as many of course:

Is it amaranth or what is it?
