Confrused

I have wanted to enter hydroponics for quite sometime, but the exact nuances of the hobby have kept me at bay. Today, i visited a friend who's growing bell peppers, strawberries and tomatoes (to name a few) quite successfully with simply 20-20-20 fertilizer dissolved in water, set to dribble 3-5 oz. of the mixture onto the plants every hour.

In reading the multiple websites and forums, it appears that plants would require more than what this simple mixture can offer. I am willing to buy some specialty hydroponic solutions, but the schedule and amount per hour (i am envisioning a drip system) is rarely (if at all) listed.

If i WERE to purchase such fancy stuff, HOW does one find out how often and how much to apply? Does it depend on your climate? I'm in SOUTH Louisiana, and it does get quite hot here.

Thanks so much for hearing me out.
