About three months ago my wife detected in odor in our downstairs bathroom. We thought nothing of it and thought maybe it was a chemical smell from soap being given off. It kept getting stronger and we were at a loss to detect where it was coming from. One day she called me at work and was hysterical as she saw a mouse in the downstairs bathtub. I came home and promptly dispatch the mouse. I then started looking around and could see some mouse droppings in another unfinished room in the basement that was used as storage. Both of us immediately went into panic mode and started buying every kind of trap we could find. In about five days we managed to catch two mice on sticky traps and five mice and conventional snap traps. It has been approximately one week now we have not caught another mouse.we had our Carpender come out and do a site survey or check the whole outside of the home.what we did discover was there was an exhaust vent leading from the fan in the bathroom in the basement leading to the outside of the house and it appears as though my somehow were getting in the vent.so now that we have sealed off the outside of the house the smell still exist.there is a vent hose leading from the vent in the bathroom ceiling to the outside of the house.however, it is not accessible as our basement ceiling is finished sheet rock in textured. do you think this situation calls for opening up the ceiling in the basement by cutting out sheet rock? We suspect that they chewed through the vent pipe or a hose leading from the bathroom fan to the outside of the house and that is how we theorize they made their way into the storeroom. We feel very confident that they can no longer get into our home. However, we do not know if we have trapped all of them that were in the house. What advice would you give now to us given the information I have posted? Thanks very much for your advice as this is been very stressful on my wife and myself.
